At GP Collective, we’re proud to have launched Tasmania’s first GP-led Urgent Care Clinic — and with it, a new standard for accessible, high-quality acute care.

Our flagship service, the Hobart Urgent Care Clinic (HUCC), was built into the fabric of our well-established after-hours medical centre in central Hobart. Strategically co-located with Blooms the Chemist and supported by an on-site radiology department, HUCC offers patients comprehensive, same-day care — streamlined, affordable, and accessible.

Urgent Care fills a crucial gap: it’s for patients who need immediate attention, but not a hospital emergency department. It’s GP medicine at its sharpest — sutures, plastering, urgent imaging, clinical decision-making — all delivered by GPs with a passion for acute care.

We like to think we’ve made a meaningful difference. Our presence has relieved pressure on Emergency Departments, including the Royal Hobart Hospital, by offering the public a trusted alternative for urgent but non-emergency treatment. That’s exactly what we set out to do.

Following the success of HUCC, we opened the doors to Bridgewater Urgent Care (BUCC) — a clinic created specifically to serve a community in real need of accessible, timely healthcare.

Just 25 minutes from Hobart, BUCC has quickly become the first point of call for many locals. It provides a vital service, seeing a high volume of acute presentations and supporting local ambulance services with an average of six transfers per week.

Doctors at BUCC must be confident in emergency medicine, able to manage deteriorating patients, and ready to act fast. It’s a place where skill and readiness make a real difference — and where the community deeply values the care they receive.

At our Urgent Care Clinics, we have a well-supported team of reception, nursing, pharmacy, and radiology staff working alongside our doctors. It’s a great option for GPs who enjoy dynamic, hands-on medicine and thrive in fast-paced environments.

Urgent Care has become a welcomed string to the bow of General Practice — bridging the gap between traditional GP consults and Emergency Departments. For doctors with interests in acute care, suturing, plastering, and diagnostics, this model offers a fulfilling and impactful way to practise.
